“My religion is music. It’s the only belief in which I can embrace the beauty of all other cultures.” – Tan Dun

East Meets West is a bespoke program created for this year’s Festival that combines and compares piano works by both western and contemporary Chinese composers. Each one of the themes – Spring, Funeral, Moon, Fish and Tango – has two contrasting pieces inspired by a similar subject. Be beguiled by these reflections from across the East/West divide.

Mo Fan Tiger Spring

Liszt Beside a Spring

Tan Dun Ancient Burial

Liszt The Funeral Gondola

Tan Dun Missing Moon

Debussy The Moon Sets Over the Ancient Temple

Mo Fan Watching Fish at Flower Harbor

Debussy Goldfish
