Daniel de Borah
Sunday 9th October,
$30 / $23 conc.
With an elegant, upright posture and a silky, sparkling touch entirely devoid of boorish bashing, de Borah wove a clear thread of lyrical fluency and charismatic flourish...” – The Australian, Grieg Concerto With Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, 2016
Daniel de Borah plays three sets of variations by Brahms and Schumann that tell stories of these famous interweaving lives. Brahms’ Op 9 variations were written as an homage to Robert and a solace to his wife Clara soon after Robert’s suicide attempt and subsequent admission to an asylum, Prior to that admission, he completed a work – the Ghost Variations – based on a theme he thought was dictated to him by the ghosts of Schubert and Mendelssohn.
To complete this wonderfully entwined program, he is joined by Timothy Young for Brahms’ Op 23 variations, which are based on this same Ghost theme.
Exquisite music performed by an exquisite pianist.
