PLEXUS: Pilgrimage is a celebration of song, as we journey back in time to present a complete re-creation of the closing concert of the very first Port Fairy Spring Music Festival in 1990, which was programmed by founders Michael Easton and Len Vorster, and featured our Festival Patron, contralto Lauris Elms.

Ludwig van Beethoven sets six Christian Gellert poems of fervent praise to the Creator; Johannes Brahms tells tales of how only Death can still Desire and how angels protect sleeping children; Robert Schumann brings us a female’s ardent expression of her life and love, followed by his beloved fantasie for clarinet and piano; and we farewell our 2020 festival with songs of Love, Admiration, and Devotion by the great Richard Strauss.

Jane Downing is an abstract painter based in Melbourne and Warrnambool creating colourful, thought-provoking pieces showcasing her passion for colour and expression. Self-taught, she paints from within, from emotions and life experiences giving a sense of freedom for which Jane is extremely grateful. Jane hopes that through her art, the viewer will be moved emotionally and connect with the painting, finding a sense of peace and joy. Adoring all things colour, it is like the colours have their own energy as they conjure themselves onto the canvas. “It is a joy to create,” says Jane.
