The silken voices of Vox Plexus present a verdant panorama of part song. Finzi’s mellifluous vision of Robert Bridges’ lyric poetry, the scintillatingly lush chromaticism of Delius, and the fresh harmonic piquancy of Britten, all sing the praises of the British countryside. Kodály’s hauntingly wordless Mountain Nights captures the grandeur of soaring peaks, Stenhammar swoons to the fragrance of sunsets in Jacobsen’s florid prose, and Saint-Saëns illuminates us as he evokes eternal nature, before the much-loved shepherd’s song Le baylere transports us blissfully into the springtime afternoon.
