Maestros of the musical imagination, Zoë Black, Timo-Veikko Valve, and James Crabb, take us on the ultimate joyride on the superhighway of human creativity, celebrating this artform’s limitless capacity for evolution and rejuvenation, with a selection of stirring keepsakes adoringly transformed into fresh new thrills. We begin with a deep breath of the crisp air of Scottish folk music, dancing our way through a medley of rousing traditional reels, in James’ heartwarming arrangement for violin and classical accordion. Our next stop is a visit to the Holy Roman Empire where we discover that Johann Pachelbel, famous for his immortal Canon in D, did in fact write some other pieces of music as well, including the majestic organ chaconne in F minor, which we experience in this expert adaptation for classical accordion. Our final destination is Vienna, where we take a supreme leap into Franz Schubert’s well-known masterwork, originally written for arpeggione and piano, here boldly reinterpreted as a sonata for cello and classical accordion. Buckle your seatbelts!
